Historic Columbia Closes House Museums Due to Impending Hurricane

October 7, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C., Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 — In anticipation of Hurricane Matthew making landfall in South Carolina, Historic Columbia will close its house museums, including the Robert Mills House, Hampton-Preston Mansion, Mann-Simons Site and the Woodrow Wilson Family Home, on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Historic Columbia will continue to monitor the weather and will follow government-issued weather safety protocols. Once the storm has passed and safety permits, Historic Columbia’s museums will resume for normal business hours.

Please follow Historic Columbia’s Facebook and Twitter accounts for updates on house museum hours and programs.

About Historic Columbia:

In November 1961, a small group of individuals intent on saving the Ainsley Hall House from demolition officially incorporated as the Historic Columbia Foundation. Over the next five decades the organization, which was founded on the premise of preservation and education, would take on the stewardship of seven historic properties in Richland County. Today, the organization serves as a model for local preservation efforts and interpretation of local history.
