Columbia, S.C. (July 29, 2016)—The Columbia World Affairs Council (CWAC) hosts, Brexit: three months later, a Distinguished Speaker Series luncheon and panel discussion on the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union, from noon to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 25, at the Palmetto Club.
European Union scholar Dr. Robert Cox, director of the Walker Institute of International and Area Studies at the University of South Carolina, and Russ Froneberger, president of Global Consulting and veteran of doing business in the UK and Continental Europe, will discuss their views on the impact of the June 23rd vote.
European Union President Donald Tusk has said, “It is true that the past years have been the most difficult ones in the history of our union, but I always remember what my father used to tell me — ‘What does not kill you make you stronger’.” This panel will examine those possibilities for strength and the international implications of the landmark decision.
“After more than 40 years of traveling to all parts of the UK and getting to know Brits on many levels,” says Froneberger, “I am confident the UK will find a path that will benefit the majority of those who say ‘I’m British’ with enthusiasm and passion.”
