This week's Board Member Spotlight is Dr. Aditi Sr
This week's Board Member Spotlight is Dr. Aditi Srivastav Bussells. @aditisri. Aditi is the Director of Research at Children’s Trust of South Carolina. She leads mixed methods research efforts on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), health equity, and public opinion around family and community well-being. Her research has has been published in several well-respected peer review journals. She works closely with various communities and organizations on data-driven decision making. Recently, she was awarded the Hon. Jim Clyburn Health Equity Emerging Leader award for her research efforts and recognized as Best and Brightest under 35 by Columbia Business Monthly. Dr. Bussells received her PhD in public health from the University of South Carolina and her undergraduate degree in American Government from the University of Virginia.

How she supports local:
"I support local business by talking about them with my networks. Word of mouth is a powerful way to get people to try a new place. To me, supporting local business is a vehicle for ensuring our city continues to grow and thrive. As a public health professional, I believe a healthy economy and healthy communities go hand and hand."

What Aditi loves about @columbiasc
"I love Columbia because of the meaningful relationships I have made, which have shown me how much opportunity and potential Columbia has. If you have an idea, chances are you can find a community of people that will help you make it happen. And that is a pretty amazing thing that you just can't find in other cities."

Books or resources she recommends:
"I recently finished reading the Color of Law (the City of Columbia has been hosting a four part virtual discussion about it! Check it out on Facebook Live), and Boom Towns: Restoring the Urban American Dream (Check out our latest newsletter about COR's virtual book club). Both books were incredibly useful in helping me understand community planning, urbanization, and most important what local government and organizations can do to build an equitable city."

The City of Columbia & partner's Color of Law disc
The City of Columbia & partner's Color of Law discussion continues. In their third session on January 21st you will hear from author Richard Rothstein, a leading authority on housing policy, during a moderated discussion with Dr. Bobby Donaldson, Director of the Center for Civil Rights History and Research at the University of South Carolina. In the book, he describes how the American government systematically imposed residential segregation with: undisguised racial zoning; public housing that purposefully segregated previously mixed communities; subsidies for builders to create whites-only suburbs; tax exemptions for institutions that enforced segregation; and support for violent resistance to African Americans in white neighborhoods.
